Having read the Making a Difference Housing and Health report into substandard housing across Wales, Welsh Conservative and Shadow Minister for Housing, David Melding AM, commented:
“Only yesterday I was calling for the Right to Adequate Housing to be embedded in Welsh legislation, and if that were the case, these statistics would be a breach of that right.
“I’ve always maintained that the knock-on effects of a strong national house building programme would be phenomenal for the Welsh economy, but this report confirms that our efforts would be justified in so many other ways.
“The costs on our society are huge, but it’s the effects on people’s physical and mental health that is most concerning. This shouldn’t be happening in 21st Century Wales”.
