The paper argues that European politics will remain important to Wales and Britain and the choices ahead to make sense of Brexit. However, Europe is about much more than the European Union. It is at heart a quest for unity, or co-operation based on values and common culture.
The need for European unity is the most crucial fact to focus on as we work to achieve a reasonable and friendly Brexit. In leaving the EU greater attention will now have to be given to the strengthening of British institutions. David Melding sees this as “a quest for internal unity that might once again open the door to Europe”.
